In Girls Chewing Ghetto Gum I have composited and coated footage of teenagers chewing plastic in a sickly digital gloss. The imagery becomes repulsive as consumption is taken to its literal extreme. This footage is interspersed with sound-bites of teenagers from Britain and Ireland describing their pound store purchases. As a regular pound shop connoisseur as a teenager, the work is as auto-biographical as it is sociological.
